Overview

Scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Cloud Cap Half Marathon by Daybreak Racing is a scenic and rugged 13.3-mile loop through historic and high-elevation terrain on Mt. Hood’s northern slopes. Starting at Cooper Spur Ski Area (3,950 ft elevation), the route climbs to nearly 6,000 ft, then descends back—boasting roughly 2,400 ft of ascent and descent.

The diverse terrain includes ~4.5 miles of single-track, 3 miles of maintained gravel road, and 5.5 miles of rough jeep road, winding through the rugged Cloud Cap–Tilly Jane Historic District and featuring landmarks such as Cloud Cap Inn and the Tilly Jane A‑Frame. Wide-open views span from Hood River Valley to Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, and Central Oregon’s high desert—especially where the Gnarl Ridge Fire opened vistas.

Support includes two staffed aid stations offering hydration, energy gels, snacks, and even PB\&J sandwiches. The course is cupless, so runners must bring their own cup. Trail etiquette rules prohibit headphones on road sections, and friendly dogs may run on leash.

The half starts at 9:00 AM, with a generous 7-hour cutoff at 4:00 PM at the finish line. Registration opens May 1 and pricing tiers range from $85 to $105, though swag like shirts or hats are sold separately. Every finisher receives a custom award; post-race includes meals and beverages, plus a prize raffle.

Funds support the Crag Rats search‑and‑rescue team, honored affiliates of the Mt. Hood community since 1926.
