One of a series of marathon, half marathon and other distance races that take place in the Boise area throughout the year organized by the City of Trees Marathon Association, the Fit For Life Half Marathon makes its 16th annual running this summer, a race that draws several hundred runners in all three races each year.

Each of the Fit For Life races takes runners on an out-and-back course along the Boise River Greenbelt Trail, the paved pathway for runners, walkers and cyclists that runs alongside the river of the same name through the city.

Runners will start the race at Hawks Memorial Stadium just off Glenwood Street, and then head onto the greenbelt trail, following it southeast along the river through a series of local parks, and through Garden City into Boise.

The course for the half marathon takes runners southward all the way to Julia Davis Park, across the river from the Boise State University campus, where they’ll reach the mid-way turnaround point and then head back along the route they’ve just run, all the way back to Hawks Stadium for the race finish.

A number of local running clubs and organizations participate in the event alongside visitors, including local high school teams, Girls On The Run, Boise Fit and the Hash House Harriers.

Overall, the course is mainly fast and flat through the streets of the city and around Julia Davis and Ann Morrison Parks, and run entirely along paved surfaces.

Race Weather & Climate

Nestled along the winding Boise River in southwestern Idaho, about 280 miles west of Idaho Falls and roughly 380 miles south of Coeur d’Alene, Boise typically sees its warmest weather of the year in July, and very little wet weather.

On race day (July 20), the average low is 61ºF and the average high is 93ºF.
