Set for its 3rd annual running this year, the Girls on the Go San Diego races are a celebration of women of all “sizes, ages and fitness levels,” organizers say, adding that the event is designed for mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts and sisters, to inspire them to reach fitness and health goals they might never have imagined for themselves.
Runners are set to start the out-and-back course for the race near Sea World San Diego, along the San Diego River front on Quivira Court. From there, the course will unfold along mostly flat, paved roads in and around the Mission Bay area, and feature views of the river as well as the Pacific Ocean nearby.
A portion of the proceeds from the race will go toward Rachel’s Women’s Center, which provides services to homeless women in the San Diego area, to help them “gather, begin and continue self-help efforts,” the organization’s website notes.
Men are welcome to run in the race but won’t be eligible for awards, organizers note. The course time limit for runners in the half marathon is 3 hours, 30 minutes — which means a pace of about 16 minutes per mile or better.
Race Weather & Climate
Nestled along the Pacific coast of Southern California, San Diego experiences mostly mild weather year-round, and temperatures rarely get out of the 60s in mid-May — which is also one of the area’s driest months of the year.
On race day (May 13), the average low is 60ºF and the average high is 69ºF.
