Nestled at the tip of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this inaugural half marathon begins and ends at the historic Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. Organized in tandem with a 5K and virtual racing options, this event offers a serene October run amidst storied maritime history.
Starting at 8:00 am EDT, the course unfolds on Whitefish Point Road—an out-and-back along a scenic, paved highway situated between dense boreal forests and Lake Superior’s shoreline. It’s described as “flat and fast,” ensuring both PR seekers and casual racers enjoy a peaceful run with minimal elevation — aided by four water/Gatorade aid stations evenly spaced.
What truly sets this half apart is its connection to Great Lakes maritime heritage. Runners receive medals and, with their bib, discounted admission to the nearby museum—home to captivating exhibits (including the bells of the Edmund Fitzgerald) and Michigan’s oldest operational lighthouse. Moreover, proceeds—alongside 100% of additional donations—support the restoration of the Whitefish Point lighthouse, giving each finish a purpose beyond pace.
The race is modest in scale and competitively priced—early registration is just $35 (plus a $10 shirt option) rising to \$60 in October. Virtual participation is also available for those who want to join remotely.
