Set for its 7th annual running in the late winter of 2016 — and with a new name, changing from the Max Muscle Half Marathon to the Hazell Dell Half Marathon — Vancouver’s Hazell Dell Half Marathon takes runners on a hilly out-and-back route that starts and finishes at the Max Muscle Vancouver sports nutrition store in the Hazel Dell area.
From there, runners head out through the quiet, residential neighborhood streets near the store on their way northward to the Salmon Creek Trail, a three-mile stretch of paved biking, walking and running trails that unfold along the creek between Salmon Creek Park and Vancouver’s Felida Bridge.
Once runners make it out to the half-way turnaround point at about the 6.55-mile point, they then head back along the route they’ve just run, re-tracing their steps in the opposite direction on the route back to the Max Muscle store for the finish line. With the exception of the stretch along the Salmon Creek Trail, which is mostly flat, runners can expect plenty of hills during the race.
Just over a couple hundred runners have come out each year for the past four years —Â including 235 finishers in 2014, with 123 of those running the half marathon — so runners can expect a small, intimate sized field.
