Overview

The Heart of Hill Country Marathon: Fall Challenge turns the entire month of October 2025 into an endurance festival. Held from October 1 to 30, this event invites participants to tackle a 10K, half marathon, full marathon, or ultra (100K/100 miles) on their own pace, across the scenic trails of the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge in Leander, TX.

Rather than a single-day race, this challenge blends 30-day flexibility with community engagement. You can hike any combination of trails—from creek-side Dōeskin Ranch to panoramic Warbler Vista—to reach your goal. An optional four-day guided group hike offers curated ultra experience. All participants receive a digital trail guide, access to a shared Strava club, and a unique Ash Juniper cookie or patch as a finisher award. Ruckers also earn specialized swag with mileage verified gear. Proceeds benefit local charities, adding community purpose to personal challenge.

Registration tiers begin early: half marathon entries open at $35 + $3.10 signup fee, with prices rising to $40 + $3.40 after July 2. Marathon pricing follows a similar pattern, along with ultra and ruck divisions priced from $30 to $65 depending on distance and timing. Refunds are not offered, but endurance is rewarded with inclusive support and well-crafted awards.
