In support of the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, the Ridgway Half Marathon and 5k is a destination race for the movie buffs of the crowd due to the fact that it takes place at the exact location where True Grit was filmed! Nestled in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, the Ridgway Half Marathon and 5k presented by the John Wayne Grit Series takes runners through the forest at the base of San Juan Mountains. Traversing a total of five private ranches, the course is both unique and scenic, offering participants a true Colorado experience with views of San Juan Mountains, the True Grit Barn, and Wildflower Valleys. Course Description
Known for its colourful foliage, its abundant wildlife, and its scenic landscapes, this half-marathon course takes runners offroad along the foothills of the San Juan Mountains, passing famed ranches, barns, and other landmarks. Marked as an intermediate offroad trail course, this moderately challenging event has three fueling stations posted throughout, so runners are encouraged to pack their own fueling in preparation. All participants will receive a racing bib, a Grit Series NATHAN shirt, and a finisher’s mug, along with other surprise goodies.
