Starting as solely a marathon, before adding the half marathon to accommodate more family members and promotion of the sport, the Metal Saw Texas Half Marathon makes its 18th annual appearance on January 1, 2017 at Greentree Park in Kingwood, Texas. Last years running in 2016 saw over 600 runners finish in both races combined with 275 in the half marathon alone.
Starting near the Greentree Village pool runners will follow a flat and fast course that is run entirely on concrete greenbelt trails. Runners will head south along the trails towards the Deerwood Elementary school. Aid stations and port-a-cans are located every 1.5 miles on the course which features four loops for the full marathon and two loops for the half.
Runners will make their way towards the West Fork San Jacinto river, and following along parallel with the water before reaching the turnaround point at the 3 mile mark. Wrapping around a small pond and just before reaching the West Fork San Jacinto River once again, runners will turn right and head back north along the same route to complete lap one.
Runners are asked to be cautious when crossing streets and running through neighborhoods, as the trails and streets are open to the public. At the finish line racers along with a t-shirt, runners will receive a custom finisher medal before making their way to the post race party starting at 10:00 AM. The party will include fresh delivered pizza, snacks, fruit, cookies, chips and soft drinks, as runners hang around the finish line to cheer on runners. If you’ve run the Texas Marathon for five or more years
The event is walker and velocity challenged participant friendly with the only time limit being 5:30 PM in order to finish before dark.
The race has a limit of 700 participants so sign up early!
