Set for its annual late summer running here in this small town outside Bloomington, which also hosts the “Hilly Hundred” cycling event each year, the Mustang Mini takes runners on an out-and-back route that starts and finishes in front of the Edgewood Primary and Intermediate schools.
From the starting line at the Edgewood Cross Country Course, which begins in front of the schools, runners head out on a twisting, winding route along a combination of country roads and trails, including some trails through Flatwoods Park.
There’s about 282 feet of elevation change over the entire 13.1 miles, and the trails bring you back to the front of the school for the race finish.
As the organizers told us about the race, “there are some elevation changes, but nothing crazy steep… this is as flat as it gets around here.”
Organizers add the race is a “walker-friendly” one, as the course time limit for the half marathon will be 4 hours — plenty of time for walkers to complete their 13.1 miles within the official race.
