In the southeastern section of North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands lies Oak Island, home to a vibrant year-long community welcoming of visitors, beautiful beaches, and the annual Oak Island Lighthouse Half Marathon.

Originally created as a 10K race in 1999, the Oak Island Lighthouse Half Marathon expanded to include a 5K run in 2006 and a half marathon course in 2012, when changing the courses from point-to-point course as in previous years. All the races provide a beautiful flat course with beach views, sea marshes, a historic fort, and of course, a lighthouse beckoning near the start and finish line.

The half marathon course begins and ends at the Middleton Park on E Dolphin Dr.  From the starting line, runners take a left onto 46th St, followed by another left onto E Beach Dr. They will then follow Beach Dr along the water until reaching 58th St where they will take a left and head north away from the water.  Before reaching the Intracoastal Waterway, the course takes a left onto Yacht Dr. They will continue onto Yacht Dr for the next few miles until reaching Barbee Blvd where they will make a right.

Heading back towards the water now, runners will continue south until they reach Ocean Dr and take a left. With two short turns onto McGlamery and Hornadav St, followed by a right onto Country Club Rd which turns into Caswell Beach Rd, runners near the turnaround point just past the Us Coast Guard Station and the Oak Island Lighthouse.  From the turnaround point, runners will follow the same course in reverse back towards the start/finish.
