From there, runners will make their way around the park and past the headquarters of the Lewis & Clark Historic Trail, where you can learn more (after the race) about the legendary journey made by the explorers William Clark and Meriwether Lewis from 1804 to 1806.
The course unfolds with a stretch around the Conagra Lake in the middle of Heartland of America Park, and then head back north back into Lewis & Clark Landing, where you’ll next run across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge over the Missouri River.
Once you’ve made it from one state (Nebraska) into another (Iowa), the race heads south through the Council Bluffs Riverfront park along the River Edge Service Road, and then back north through the park, up to Council Bluffs Levee Road.
On that road, you’ll make a long out-and-back to the turnaround point near North 25th Street, and then follow it back all the way into the riverfront, across the pedestrian bridge and back again into Lewis & Clark Landing for the race finish.
