active reg buttonSet for its 9th annual running in 2018, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon and Two-Person Relay saw nearly 10,000 runners cross the finish line last year, along a course that features many of the Big D’s best-known places to see and visit, from Dealey Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum to the legendary Cotton Bowl football stadium.

The race begins in downtown Dallas at the intersection of Young Street and Lamar Street, near the Dallas Convention Center, Lubben Plaza Park and Pioneer Plaza. From there, the course winds its way through downtown along Canton and Commerce Streets, and then heads through John F. Kennedy Plaza and Dealey Plaza by the mile 4 marker.

Runners get to see some of Dallas’s most historic spots in the race’s first few miles, as the course runs along Houston Street and Elm Street through Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot on that sunny day back in November 1963, and the Sixth Floor book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald fired his shots, now a museum dedicated to the history of the assassination and what happened here back then.

After that, the course heads back and forth across the Trinity River, which starts the flattest and lowest stretch of the race. Once they make it back across the river, runners head north along Dragon Street and Oak Lawn Avenue, through Dallas’s Design District and Oaklawn, which features the race’s biggest hill between miles 10 and 11.

The course heads uphill and downhill again between miles 12 and 13, a long stretch along Cedar Springs Road, which also features a stretch through Turtle Creek Park.

Runners cross the finish line at Houston and Olive Streets, near the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and the American Airlines Center, the arena that’s home to both the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

The course time limit for Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas is 4 hours, so the race is open to both runners and walkers.
