Making its annual running on the first weekend of March, the Run hard Columbia will feature a Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K, all in beautiful Columbia, South Carolina. Last years race in 2017 saw 856 runners cross the finish line in all three races combined, including 414 in the half marathon alone. The half marathon race takes runners on a beautiful course around downtown Columbia, passing local landmarks such as the Town Theatre and State house, as well as a run around Lake Katharine.
Runners will start the half marathon on Sumter Street across from the state house. They will immediately take a right onto College St, and another quick left onto main St. Just before the 1 mile mark, the course turns left onto Blossom Street, before turning right onto Seluda Ave after crossing the train tracks. Â Runners will take a right onto Heyward St, and remain their for the next two miles, before reaching Kilbourne Rd, which they will take North. A right onto Devereaux Rd, will send runners towards Lake Katharine and past Brennen Elementary. Keeping the lake on their right, participants will make their way around the northern section of the lake on Kathwood Dr and Woodlake Dr.
After reaching Quail Ln, the course takes a left, and makes its way to Trenholm Rd, for miles 8 and 9. Stretches along Gervais St. and Pickens St. will take runners by the Clarion Downtown Hotel, just a few miles from the finish. A left on Richland St. and another left onto Main St. will put runners at the finish line, just a few blocks away from the start. With a 7:30 AM start, runners in the half marathon will have 6 hours to finish the race before the 1:30 PM course closing time. The race will be officially timed using a chip-based timing system and all finishers will receive a medal, with age group awards going to the top 3 runners in each division.

The capital city and the second-largest city in South Carolina, with a population of over 134,000 thousand people, Columbia sees temperatures in the mid 40’s to high 60’s in March. March also brings around 4.6 inches of rainfall over the month.
