Welcome to a trail running experience like no other – the inaugural Shasta Lake Ultra and Trail Half Marathon presented by Pacific Coast Trail Runs. In our relentless pursuit of new horizons and new races in stunning locations, the Shasta Lake event promises to be an epic adventure. Picture this: the starting line and triumphant finish set against the backdrop of our gracious hosts’ private property. Shasta Lake is the star of the show, and with its rejuvenation from the recent drought, the event takes on a new dimension of excitement. You’ll find yourself camping just a stone’s throw from the shimmering waters, ready for a weekend of pure delight.
This year, Shasta Lake is brimming with life, and you’ll have the privilege of setting up your camp just a few feet from the lake’s edge. The beautiful setting includes not only the crystal-clear lake but also a luxurious swimming pool, a well-stocked bar, and a delightful restaurant – all set to enhance your event experience. The entire Lakeshore Inn has been reserved for our runners and their guests. You’ll have a choice of accommodations, whether you prefer a camping site, an RV site with full hookups, a cozy one or two-bedroom cottage, or the unique charm of an Airstream. The options are abundant, and to make a reservation, you can reach out via email.
In this first year of the Shasta Lake Ultra, we’re offering a 50K and a Half Marathon. Course planning was in full swing until the winter of 2022-23 brought much-needed rainfall, which, while great for the environment, caused some damage to the original trail design. Unfortunately, we don’t have a timeframe for the repairs to be completed by October 2023. So, for our inaugural event, we’re introducing a “Clover Leaf Style” course. This style features one start and finish location at the Lakeshore Inn Resort. It’s the perfect setup, allowing your support crews, friends, and families to relax and enjoy the lake or take a dip in the swimming pool while you embark on your trail adventure around Shasta Lake.
The Half Marathon features two distinct loops, while the 50K will have runners traversing the same loops twice, covering the extended distance by adding a section to the half marathon loop. As the event gains traction and our trail running community grows, we aim to recruit more volunteers, garner further approvals, and secure additional resources to continue developing and expanding the course, creating a magical and unforgettable experience.
Shasta Lake is the ultimate backdrop for your journey, and the Shasta Lake Ultra and Trail Half Marathon promises to be a celebration of the great outdoors, camaraderie, and a memorable escape into nature. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this inaugural adventure.
