This race is a double-looping racing course, beginning at Blevins Gap Land Trust along picturesque Green Mountain with an immediate 200 feet of elevation gain. Once the first climb has been completed, runners can be content knowing that from miles 1 to 5 it’s a descent from 1500 feet all the way down to 700 feet.
Then the real work starts… At mile 5, runners begin the most major climb of the course for the first of two times on Smokerise Trail. Once complete, you guessed it… It’s an identical rendition of loop #1 until ultimately you find yourself back where you started to complete the 13.1-mile course.
With a hard cap of 250 participants and a generous 7-hour cut-off time for the half marathon, the Smoke Rise Trail Run half marathon is a smaller event than most, so no need to be concerned about stepping on your fellow participants’ feet. Just remember to bring your own water bottle for this race is a “cupless race”. Each of the 250 participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt at registration as well as a finisher’s medal upon crossing the finish line.
Half Marathon Guide is the largest calendar and educational resource in the world for half marathon runners and enthusiasts with over 10,000,000 annual visitors.
