Sunday, November 13, 2022 • South Padre Island, TX • Course Map
Running on an island might not be what you’d associate with a race in the continental U.S., but the South Padre Marathon, Half Marathon & Relay provides just that: a scenic, flat race on the coast of Texas.
The point-to-point half marathon course begins on the mainland in the heart of nearby Port Isabel. From there runners run through Port Isabel and over the bridge toward South Padre Island. After arriving on South Padre Island, the course continues south along the island toward the island’s southernmost point before turning around and heading back north along the island, passing Queen Isabella Memorial Park and Andy Bowie County Park along the way.
There are plenty of photo opportunities along the course, and the race organizers have even included selfie zones along the course for these photo opportunities, both with local landmarks and areas designed just for the race.
The course is almost entirely flat, just above sea level, with a few rolling hills along the island. The four-hour time limit for the half marathon gives walkers and runners alike plenty of time to complete the course.
