Course Description

The UC Marathon begins on Capitol Street in Charleston, at the UC Downtown Innovation Hub. Runners head west into the West Side, passing through one of Charleston’s oldest and most community-driven neighborhoods. From there the course crosses the Patrick Street Bridge, offering views of the Kanawha River as runners transition toward the southern part of the city. The route then hugs the riverbank, passing the University of Charleston with its scenic campus and views of the State Capitol. Runners enter the tree-lined streets of Kanawha City, looping through quiet residential avenues perfect for maintaining a steady pace. After completing the loop, the course crosses the South Side Bridge bringing runners back toward the heart of the city. The route continues around the Capitol Complex featuring the iconic golden dome of West Virginia’s government center, before heading through the East End neighborhood full of character and charm. The race finishes at Capitol Street with a Party at Slack Plaza featuring music, food, and celebration for runners and spectators.

This USATF-Certified course is ideal for personal records or Boston qualifying times. (USATF-WV25002MS)
