Kick off the Whale Festival weekend with this beloved Mendocino Coast tradition on Saturday, March 14, 2026, organized by Soroptimist International of Fort Bragg. This multi-distance event draws up to 800 participants, weaving together scenic ocean trails, family-friendly vibes, and festival energy.
The half marathon follows the coastal trail north from Noyo Headlands Park, crossing the Pudding Creek Trestle, and pushing on to MacKerricher State Park before returning—perfect for runners who crave ocean views and wildlife spotting (yes, whales!). The 10K covers the same out‑and-back until the Glass Beach and trestle, while the 5K route heads out near Compass Rose. There’s also a 5K Fun Walk and a “kiddie run” (300 m) for ages 2–10.
All events begin at 7:30 AM PDT, except the kiddie run at 7:45 AM. Entry fees—around $48.70 for adult races—include a race shirt, finisher medal, and access to donated youth scholarships.
What makes the Whale Run unique is its combination of natural beauty and community celebration. Participants share awe-inspiring ocean and redwood views, with the chance to spot whales from the trail. It’s also a cultural launchpad, as Fort Bragg’s annual Whale Festival unfolds with a craft fair, guided whale-watching, wine tasting, and a live symphony concert—all synced to race day.
In its 38th year, this thoughtfully organized event supports women and girls through scholarships while welcoming runners and families into a supportive coastal atmosphere. Whether chasing a PR or a fresh experience, the Whale Run delivers scenery, tradition, and soul.
