The race starts at 570 meters of elevation and ascends to 1,300 meters to Sugarloaf Mountain before at mile 2.6, the race descends to less than 400 meters of elevation and tapering off it’s elevation change.
The first two miles of uphill battle make this a tougher trail half marathon than most.
Participants can expect a professionally managed course with pacer groups provided at various time intervals to assist runners in achieving their desired finish times. Awards are presented to the top finishers in each age group, as well as overall male and female winners.
Safety is a top priority, with rules and regulations in place to ensure a fair and secure race environment. Runners are encouraged to bring their own environmentally friendly cups, hydration packs, or drinking vessels and are provided with a list of essential and recommended gear for the race. The essentials include a running pack, smartphone, refillable water flask, survival blanket, emergency whistle, and jacket with hood, while suggested extras include an external battery or power bank, cap or bandana, food reserve, and extra layer for cold weather.
After crossing the finish line, participants can enjoy live music, great food, and family entertainment at the post-race celebration. With shorter trail runs and races for kids available, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship Half Marathon.
