East Tennessee’s Secret City Half Marathon takes runners along a fast and largely level course. The route follows the beautiful Clinch River with runners passing a quarry for a change of scenery. The course continues down a serene tree-lined road and through the heart of Oak Ridge. The route picks up the Clinch River again for impressive views all the way to the finish.
Oak Ridge was a city created in secrecy literally ‘overnight’ in the 1940’s and played a vital role in helping to end WWII with the creation of atomic weapons. Nicknamed the ‘Secret City’ for its role in the war effort; Oak Ridge was not even on a map until the 1960’s.
Today, Oak Ridge is a vibrant city with scenic greenways, challenging hiking and biking trails, and beautiful waterways.
