Hill Country Trivium Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 50K

Sunday, November 5, 2023 • Marble Falls, TX • Course Map

Filled with wild, wide-open terrain that’s known for everything from forests, mountains and lush green valleys to plains and deserts, the Texas hill country reaches into metropolitan areas like Austin and San Antonio but also includes protected wildlands like the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, through which the Colorado River still carves its way along the Edwards Plateau.

That’s the scenery that awaits runners at the Hill Country Trivium, along a route that starts and finishes in the tiny town of Marbles Falls, Texas, home to just over 6,000 people about an hour outside Austin, about halfway between Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and the Balcones refuge.

Runners will start the out-and-back course at Marble Falls High School, hitting the starting line at the school’s Mustang Stadium. From there, the race heads west along Hi View, Park View Drive and Park Ridge Drive to Mormon Mill Road, where runners turn right and head northeast for the next three miles.

When they reach the intersection with Highway 341, they turn right and head southeast, all the way to the half marathon turnaround point about a mile past Sycamore Falls Way.

After that, the race brings runners back along the exact same route in reverse, hitting the biggest hills along Highway 341 as runners are approaching the 5th mile marker and on the way back, when they’re passing the 8th mile marker.

Along nearly all of the race course, the scenery will be wide-open rural countryside as the route unfolds largely along paved country roads just north of Marble Falls.

As the organizers describe it, this is a race for runners who are ready to take a turn on “roads less travelled” — there won’t be throngs of people cheering you on throughout the course, but you will have a chance to run among some of Texas’s most picturesque natural beauty.
