California > Pleasanton Run for Education Half Marathon & 5K
Pleasanton, CA  •  Sunday, April 13, 2014  •  Course Map

Nestled among the hills of Northern California's San Francisco Bay Area on the eastern side of the mountain ridge that bears its name, Pleasanton was named one of the nation's "25 Most Uniquely American Cities and Towns" by Newsmax magazine in 2010 and plays host to the annual Pleasanton Run for Education Half Marathon & 5K.

The race serves as a fundraiser for the Pleasanton Partnerships in Education Foundation, which supports programs in local area public schools (especially those threatened by budget cuts in recent years) and receives 100 percent of the proceeds from the event.

Runners start the race at the Alameda County Fairgrounds near the center of town, and from there head out on an out-and-back course through the city that takes them over a combination of paved roads, dirt trails and improved nature trails, which wind alongside creeks and neighborhoods, and run past and through parks, schools and homes.

The course unfolds both through downtown sections of Pleasanton and along stretches of several area trails including the stretches of the Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail, Arroyo Del Valle Trail, Centennial Trail and Pleasanton Canal Trail, before heading back to the fairgrounds for the race finish.

Both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in the half marathon and the 5K -- you can even bring along your child in a running stroller if you like -- and organizers say they'll station 6 aid stations and plentiful bathrooms along the race route.
