California > River City Marathon, Half Marathon, 50K, 10K & 5K
Folsom, CA  •  Sunday, March 10, 2013  •  Course Map

Northern California's Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail and American River Parkway are the setting for the annual River City Marathon & Half Marathon, which is set to add three new race distances for the first time at its 2013 race -- the 50K, 10K and 5K.

The race's half marathon route -- which was run in past years along a point-to-point course that started in Sacramento's Goethe Park and finished at Discovery Park -- will feature a new course this year. The race moves to Folsom for 2013, and is set to follow an out-and-back route for the half marathon that starts and finishes at Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park, and unfolds along the shoreline of Lake Natoma.

Runners will still run the paved trails of the American River Parkway trail, which is largely fast and flat with a few rolling hills along the course. From the Folsom Powerhouse park, the half marathon heads south and west along the parkway trailWillow Creek to Nimbus Overlook, keeping to the lakeshore for most of the race all the way to the bridge at Hazel Avenue, which takes them across the lake and over into Mississippi Bar park.

Once they reach the turnaround point inside Mississippi Bar -- the place where the trail intersects with Main Avenue -- then the race is the same course runners just ran, this time in reverse all the way back to Folsom Powerhouse park for the finish line.

Scheduled starting time is 7:30 AM for the half marathon, followed by the 10K and 5K races at 7:45 AM. (The full marathon and 50K races start at 7:00 AM.)

Race Weather & Climate

In March, average monthly temperatures range between 65°F and 45°F, while rainfall totals average just over 4 inches for the month. On the day of the race (March 10), the average high is 64°F and the average low is 44°F.
