California > Wounded Warrior Half Marathon, 5K & Military Mile
Point Mugu, CA  •  Saturday, September 15, 2012  •  Course Map  •  Race Photos

Filled with nearly all-flat terrain along the paved roads that wind through Naval Base Ventura County near Point Mugu just outside Los Angeles, the Wounded Warrior Half Marathon, 5K & Military Mile pays tribute to the servicemen and women who have been injured in combat, many of whom turn out for and run in the race each year.

The race follows an out-and-back course that starts on the base -- which lies along the Pacific coastline between Port Hueneme, near Oxnard, and the mountains of nearby Point Mugu State Park to the east -- at Building 16, near the corner of 9th Street and Mugu Road. From there, runners in the half marathon will follow what is roughly a counter-clockwise loop through the base, on nearly all-flat roads -- which makes it an excellent pick for the first-time half marathoner as well as experienced runners looking to set a personal record.

The second half of the race takes runners along Beach Road, where they'll be able to take in views of the Pacific Ocean and Mugu Lagoon, which they'll cross over by bridge to start the final three miles of the race. While the half marathon and the 5K are designed for runners, the event also hosts a Military Mile race that's designed to be both children and stroller friendly.

Runners will start the half marathon and 5K at 7:30 AM, and age group awards will be presented to the top three runners in each of the following for the half marathon: age 17 and under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and age 70 and above.
