Set for its second annual running here along the sugar-white sand beaches of Florida's Gulf coastline, Panama City Beach's Gulf Coast Sun Run features a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 5K run and a one-mile fun run for both runners and walkers, all of which feature out-and-back routes that start and finish at the city's Aaron Bessant Park, which lies near both Pier Park and Frank Brown Park, just a stone's throw from the beach and the clear, blue water of the Gulf of Mexico.
From the starting line at the park, which lies at 500 West Park Drive, runners follow the race route through Pier Park and out onto Front Beach Road, where the course then unfolds along a long, fast and flat out-and-back stretch along Front Beach, all the way to the turnaround point. Once there, runners then make the turn and retrace their steps all the way back to the park for the race finish.
Proceeds from the race go to support Gulf Coast Athletics, which assists student athletes at Florida's Gulf Coast Community College. The half marathon starting time is 7:30 AM, followed by those running the 5K at 7:45 AM -- while those running or walking in the one-mile fun run will start their event at 9:45 AM.
