Georgia > Race For This City Half Marathon
McDonough, GA • Saturday, May 18, 2013 • Course Map
Part of a four-city race series taking place throughout the spring in the metro Atlanta area and Macon, Ga., the Race For This City McDonough Half Marathon is set to take runners on an out-and-back loop route through this small city of roughly 22,000 residents, which lies about a half-hour drive south of downtown Atlanta.
Rolling hills are found throughout the race route, which starts and finishes at Newsole Running on McDonough Parkway, near the McDonough Crossing Shopping Center. From there, the race heads out on a clockwise loop through the city, unfolding through a combination of the city's downtown, neighborhood streets and a few local lakes, before heading back to Newsole Running for the race finish.
Each race in the series is designed to be kept to a small number of runners, up to a maximum of 500 -- the Race For This City Griffin Half Marathon, which took place in early 2013 in Griffin, Ga., saw 50 runners cross the finish line in the half marathon alone. Runners must be able to pass the mile 5 marker before 8:30 AM -- about an hour and a half into the race -- to prevent being picked up by the race SAG wagon and dropped off at the mile 10 marker.
The races also are designed to benefit local charities in each city, including Impact Racing Ministries, Meals On Wheels of Coweta, and the Ronald McDonald Charities of Central Georgia.
