Georgia > Rambling Half Marathon
Macon, GA • Saturday, November 17, 2012 • Course Map
"Lord, I was born a ramblin' man..." If those words bring to mind the legendary tune by the Allman Brothers for you, then you'll be in good company at the all-new Rambling Half Marathon, which is set for its inaugural running in mid-November along the streets of the city where the band made its home in the early 1970s -- Macon, Georgia.
The race will be run as a benefit for the Big House Museum, the actual "Big House" on Vineville Avenue in Macon where the band and their friends and family members lived between 1970 and 1973, and where they wrote some of their most famous songs, including "Ramblin' Man" and "Blue Sky," as well as "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" and "Midnight Rider." Fans of the band will see the 6,000-sq.-ft. house on the race course and get a chance to visit it at a concert later in the evening after the race.
As for the run itself, the course will follow an out-and-back route that starts and finishes at Macon's Central City Park, on the grounds of the Georgia State Fairgrounds just east of downtown, along the banks of the Ocmulgee River. From there, the course heads into Macon's historic downtown district and through the Vine-Ingle neighborhood (where the Big House is located) and then back again to the park for the race finish.
The scheduled starting time for the race is 8:00 AM, and organizers note that the race will close once 750 entrants have signed up.
