Hawaii > Wahine Half Marathon & Girls 5K
Honolulu, HI  •  Sunday, April 1, 2012  •  Course Map  •  Series Calendar

Hawaii's capital city of Honolulu -- with its gorgeous and popular beaches like Waikiki and historic sites like Pearl Harbor, where the U.S.S. Arizona still lies at the bottom of the harbor as a solemn reminder of the nation's entry into World War II -- is the setting for the second annual running in 2012 of the Wahine Half Marathon & Girls 5K, part of the Run Like A Diva series of half marathon events staged around the country throughout the year.

The out-and-back course for the race starts and finishes at Honolulu's Ala Moana Park, a roughly 76-acre park that lies just to the west of Oahu's famous Waikiki Beach and a popular local spot for swimming, sunbathing, body-boarding and surfing. Along the 13.1-mile half marathon route, runners will get a chance to take in some of the south shore's best scenic views, including Diamond Head just down the beach from Ala Moana Park as well as parts of the city of Honolulu itself.

Runners finish the race back where they started at the beach park, where organizers note that they'll get to enjoy finish line festivities including roses and champagne, as well as feather boas and tiaras handed out to runners to celebrate "running like a diva," the race's namesake.

The event, which is part of the Women's National Running Series called the Run Like A Diva -- which also hosts events in Long Island, N.Y., and Puerto Rico in the fall -- is designed to celebrate and encourage athletic and fitness accomplishments for women and girls, with the half marathon for adults and the 5K race for both kids and adults. Both races feature early starting times -- 6:00 AM for the half marathon and 6:30 AM for the 5K.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along the southern end of the Hawaiian island of Oahu, just down the coastline from Pearl Harbor, Honolulu typically experiences mild to moderately warm (and occasionally hot) weather conditions virtually year-round. In April, average monthly temperatures range between 83°F and 68°F, while rainfall totals average just under 1.2 inches for the month. On the day of the race (April 1), the average high is 83°F and the average low is 68°F.
