Idaho > Sole 2 Soul Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Declo, ID • Saturday, September 3, 2011 • Course Map
Set for its second annual running here in this small southeastern Idaho city in the late summer of 2011, Declo's Sole 2 Soul Half Marathon, 10K & 5K race is set to take runners along an out-and-back course that shows off both the wide-open rural countryside just outside the town as well as the mountains of the Albion mountain that rise on the horizon off in the distance, just south of the city.
Designed to raise both funds and awareness of the mission of Declo's Sole 2 Soul -- an organization that seeks to help families wishing to adopt any of the more than 120,000 children across the United States who are awaiting adoptive families at any given time -- the race proceeds will be used to provide financial assistance to families that have completed the home study portion of the adoption process.
All three races in the event share the same starting and finish line, which lies at Declo High School along Skaggs Ranch Road. From there, those running in the half marathon follow the course first along a long straightaway stretch for just over the first two miles, and then turn and follow Skaggs Ranch Road as it winds first right and then left again, taking runners eastward out toward the turnaround point near the intersection with Skaggs Ranch and Wood Ranch Roads.
Once they reach the turnaround, runners then head back westward along the stretch they've just run along Skaggs Ranch Road, but then turn left and head southwest down along the road that winds along the banks of the Snake River. Runners keep heading southwest along the river until they meet up with East 200 South, where they turn left and make their way back toward 1050 East Road. The last couple of miles take runners back along Skaggs Ranch toward the high school, where the race finish line lies.
At the race's inaugural running in 2010, just over 100 runners crossed the finish line in all three races combined, including 16 runners in the 13.1-mile distance. For the 2011 race, the starting time for all three distances is scheduled for 8:00 AM, and registration will be available on the day of the race starting at 7:00 AM.
