Set for its inaugural running in the late spring here in the Chicagoland area, about a 40-mile drive north from that city's downtown, the tropical-themed Splish Splash Half Marathon & Tropical 8K will take runners on an out-and-back tour of the village of Gurnee, home to Six Flags Great America and the Key Lime Cove Resort park, where the race starts and finishes.
From Key Lime Cove -- an indoor waterpark resort with hotels, spas and 65,000 square feet of water rides -- runners will head out into Gurnee village, where they'll pass by the Gurnee Mills shopping mall as well as Six Flags, whose roller coasters and park rides tower over the streets below.
Volunteers will be out along the course to "lei" runners as they're making their way back through Gurnee village to Key Lime Resort for the finish. Both the half marathon and the 8K race will start at 7:30 AM.
