Indiana > Lake City International Marathon, Half
50K & 8K
Saturday, September 13, 2008
You'll need to be ready for an early start time at Warsaw and nearby
Winona Lake's Lake City International Marathon, Half Marathon &
50K race, as all three races share the same starting time of 6:00 AM.
Fast and mainly flat, the course takes runners on a loop starting at
the Kosciusko Community YMCA and running through the northern parts of
downtown Warsaw for the 13.1-mile half marathon; for the full,
26.2-mile marathon, runners follow the second 13.1 miles around Winona
Lake just to the south of town.
The Lake City event has a relatively short history (it has been run
annually since 2004) and enjoys an intimate, small-size race field --
fewer than 100 runners crossed the finish line in the 2007 race.
Nevertheless, what it lacks in size it makes up for in a friendly,
welcoming atmosphere among the race organizers and volunteers, past
participants add. Though it has had problems with mile markers in
particular in some past events, last year's running of the event was
well-organized and enjoyable race.
As of early March 2008, race organizers have established a set date for
the event but its actual running may still be in doubt -- one of the
event's potential star runners has not been able to leave his home
country of Kenya due to the recent political turmoil there, and race
organizers plan to announce by March 15, 2008, whether to go ahead with
the race or not. For updated information, please visit the event
website (link below).
