The beginnings of one of the country's earliest planned green
communities is taking shape in Charles County, Maryland, which is also
one of the nation's fastest-growing areas and will serve as the site of
the second annual running of the St. Charles Half Marathon, 5K Run/Walk and
One-Mile Fun Run in the spring of 2011.
Part of a series of half
marathon race events that will take place throughout the year under the USRA Half
Marathon Series, the St. Charles Half will feature a mixture of both
streets and trails through this southern Maryland community that lies
just 22 miles from the White House in Washington, D.C.
Open to runners, walkers and participants with strollers, the half
marathon and 5K race will take participants through the St. Charles
community, along a course that will show off the areas now being
developed which will become schools, homes, apartment communities,
retirement communities, retail stores and more.
The morning of the race will see the start of the half marathon at 8:00
AM, followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 8:15 AM and the Fun Run at 9:00 AM.
This race is part of the USRA Half Marathon Series, which includes half
marathons in Columbia, S.C.; Bentonville, Ark.; Mount Pleasant, Wis.;
Lexington, Ky.; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Bloomington, Ind.; Joplin, Mo.;
Purdue University, Ind.; Clarksville, Tenn.; Lancaster, Penn.;
Stockton, Calif.; and Flagler County, Fla.

March or May. In April, the town's average monthly temperatures range
between 68°F and 43°F, while rainfall amounts average
