This small township in the middle of the state, which lies just north of the city of Saginaw and just south of Saginaw Bay in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, welcomes the addition of the half marathon race distance for the first time in 2011 to its annual Carrollton Festival of Races, which also features a 26.2-mile full marathon and a 5K for both runners and walkers.
All races in the event follow out-and-back courses that start and finish at Carrollton High School at 1235 Mapleridge Road, and take runners on a combination of city streets and paved biking, running and walking paths that wind through this small town on the banks of the Saginaw River, which connects the nearby city of the same name with the bay that shares its name.
Proceeds from the race go to benefit local charitable organizations, including the Carrollton Educational Foundation, the East Side Soup Kitchen and the town's Child Abuse and Neglect Council. The starting time for both the full and the half marathon is 6:00 AM, followed by those running or walking in the 5K at 8:15 AM.
