Named for the river that runs right through the heart of the city, Mount Pleasant's Chippewa River Run Half Marathon, 10K & 5K is one of a series of half marathon races set to take place here in this central Michigan city throughout the year from April through November, near the middle of Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
Started by Ryan Hackett, a 24-year-old runner and manager of a specialty running store in Mount Pleasant, the Michigan Half Series features a slate of races for every season, from the series' winter events (like its Ice Cube Half Marathon, Snowmans Half Marathon and Mud Dogs Half Marathon races) to this series, which covers the spring, summer and fall seasons.
Runners taking part in the springtime Chippewa River Run Half will follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at Mount Pleasant's Island Park, a 50-acre park that lies along the Chippewa River and is the northernmost park in a series of parks along the river, including Mill Pond Park and Chipp-a-Water Park. From there, runners head off from the starting line at 331 Main Street and follow a course that winds through the outskirts of the city, just north of the campus of Central Michigan University.
One of the nice features of this series is that if you win your age group division -- for the overall series, that is all 6 events -- you'll receive free lifetime race entry in the series in subsequent years, as often as you wish to come back.
