Nevada > Mustang 50th Half Marathon & 5K
Las Vegas, NV  •  Saturday, April 19, 2014  •  Course Map

The 50th anniversary of one of America's all-time classic cars is the occasion for the Mustang 50th Half Marathon & 5K presented by Shelby American, a race that will take runners on an out-and-back loop on the tracks of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where both NASCAR and Indy Racing events draw hundreds of thousands of fans every year.

After its debut on April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang became one of the most influential cars ever designed, and would later influence everything from the Chevrolet Camaro to the Pontiac Firebird and the Dodge Challenger. Now one of our most iconic cars, the Mustang one of the few cars on the road to remain in uninterrupted production for more than five decades.

Runners will start the race inside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the front stretch of the oval track, in front of the grandstands. From there, they'll run also on the inner road course and the drag strip, and runners will need to be ready for some (very small and gradual) hills -- the same hills that drivers encounter when they're racing along the track, like between miles 2 and 4, where the course rises just over 60 feet between those two mile markers.

Miles 3 and 4, as well as 9 and 10, bring runners out onto the road that parallels the drag strip, while miles 7 and 8 bring runners out onto the winding road that nears the Bullring, the 3/8th mile paved oval track located off Las Vegas Blvd., inside gate Entry 2 at the speedway.

The last mile and a half or so of the race brings runners back through the speedway and back onto the turns and the front stretch, where they'll cross the finish line in front of the stands.

Race Weather & Climate

Famous for its arid desert climate that gets little to no rainfall at any time of year, Las Vegas usually sees mild to moderately warm (and usually very sunny and dry) weather in April, which has brought record temperatures here as low as 26 degrees (in 1896) and as high as 102 degrees (in 1943).

April Avg. Day of Race Monthly Precip.
Low: 54°F Low: 55°F Rain: 0.08 in.
High: 78°F High: 79°F Snow: 0 in.
