Nevada > Rock-n-River Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Reno, NV  •  Sunday, May 6, 2012  •  Course Map

Featuring a course that takes runners along the Reno Riverwalk area that winds along the Truckee River that flows through the city, the Rock-n-River Marathon & Half Marathon Festival includes both the 26.2-mile and 13.1-mile race distances as well as a 10K and 5K race for runners looking for a shorter distance.

Set for its fifth annual running in the spring of 2012, the race takes runners on an out-and-back route that starts in downtown Reno near the corner of Virginia and Commercial Row, and then heads south toward the river, to the first turn on 1st Street. Runners turn right there and head west a few blocks toward Ralston Street, where they turn left and head a block or so closer toward the river until they meet up with the Truckee River Trail.

Made up of walkways and bike paths that wind along the river through the city and connect parks and greenways throughout, the river trail system takes runners westward along the river for the next five miles of the out-and-back course. Runner remain on the trail heading west, running roughly parallel with Idlewild Drive, and pass through local parks like Crissy Coughlin Park and Ambrose Park on their way to the half-way turnaround point, which lies just north of Mayberry Crossing Park.

Along the route, there's a very gradual ascent over the course of the first six miles as the course rises about 160 feet from the starting line in downtown Reno to the peak of the course at just before the turnaround point. On the way back, there's an equally gradual downhill descent in the second half, as runners retrace their steps along the route they just ran, all the way back to downtown for the race finish.

Following the singing of the national anthem in the morning, the race begins with the start of the full marathon runners at 6:30 AM, followed by the start for the half marathon runners at 7:00 AM. The 10K and 5K runners start their races at 7:20 AM and 7:30 AM, respectively.
