New Jersey > Seven Bridges Road Half Marathon & 5K
Tuckerton, NJ  •  Sunday, April 27, 2014  •  Course Map

Set for its 4th annual running here in South Jersey along the highway known as the Great Bay Boulevard, which will take runners over the marshes that jut out into the Little Egg Inlet, Little Egg Harbor and the Great Bay.

The Seven Bridges Road Half Marathon & 5K will also serve as a fundraiser for a worthy organization -- Ocean of Love, which provides support to children with cancer and their families.

The race got its inspiration from a local boy named Tyler Berg, who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of eight. Both he and his family valiantly fought his illness together, with lots of help from his neighbors and friends throughout the community, who contributed to help with the tremendous costs of his treatment.

Though he eventually lost his battle with cancer, Tyler's memory has served as an inspiration to his family and friends, and helped inspire this year's race.

Runners will start the race in Tuckerton at the area known as the Tuckerton Seaport, which lies along its Main Street, just blocks from Pohatcong Lake. From there, runners will follow what is basically a long, out-and-back run along Great Bay Boulevard, running first through the neighborhoods that lie just south of Main Street and then out into the marshland areas, which become more frequent and then become the only scenery along either side of the road the further south you go.

Along the way, the course offers up basically flat terrain for the entire race route, as runners make their way at basically a few feet above sea level for the entire out-and-back route to the end of Great Bay Boulevard and back. Once they hit the turnaround point, runners then head back along the road in reverse, taking in the marshes, marinas and sandbars a second time on the way back to the finish.

For those who haven't yet registered online, registration will be available on the day of the race, starting at 7:30 AM. The starting time for the half marathon will be 8:30 AM, followed by the 5K (which will be open to both runners and walkers) at 8:45 AM.
