North Dakota > The Burli-Mot Half Marathon
Minot, ND  •  Saturday, August 16, 2014  •  Course Map

Organized by the locally based Mile One Running Shop and the Minot, N.D., running group known as the Magic City Striders, the Burli-Mot Half Marathon makes its annual late summer running again in 2014, along a point-to-point course that starts just outside town and finishes in Minot's Oak Park.

Runners can choose between either the individual half marathon or the 4-person half marathon relay, in which each runner covers different distances -- 4 miles for the first relay runner, 3.5 miles for the second, 2.9 miles for the third and 2.7 miles for the fourth. Relay teams will follow the same route as the individual half marathoners, who will run all 13.1 miles between the starting line in Burlington and the finish line in Minot.

Where the race begins in Burlington, a tiny frontier town of about 1,000 residents whose history dates all the way back to the 1880s, runners will begin with an out-and-back stretch along 87th Street. Once they complete the out-and-back, which parallels the winding Souris River, runners will then head south and east through the starting line near the corner of Park Road and North Project Road and make turns onto Davis Road and Colton Avenue before turning onto County Road 15.

Once they're on County Road 15, runners will follow it south and east until it becomes 4th Avenue NW, and heads due east toward downtown Minot, a considerably larger city with about 70,000 residents. The only significant hill on the course lies along this stretch, between mile markers 9 and 10 as the route veers off County Road 15 and onto 4th Avenue.

The final couple of miles of the race unfold entirely within Oak Park, as runners make their way along the park's winding trails to the finish line near the creekside inside the park.
