Ohio > Cincinnati Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk
Cincinnati, OH  •  Saturday, October 19, 2013  •  Course Map

More than 1,400 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in both races combined -- with more than 1,200 of those finishers running the 13.1-mile race alone -- at the 2012 running of the Cincinnati Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk, which features a fast and flat course that unfolds along the Ohio River and offers runners an excellent chance to mark personal record times, organizers say.

With both races open to runners as well as walkers, the half marathon and the 5K share the same starting and finish line at Cincinnati's Sawyer Point, the mile-long linear park along the riverfront just south of downtown. From there, runners head out first through the area near the river where the city's two major sports stadiums lie -- the Great American Ball Park, the home of Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds, and Paul Brown Stadium, where the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals play.

After the stretch in front of the two stadiums along the river, runners then head briefly away from the river into downtown -- which, incidentally, forms the cityscape that served as the opening scene for the 80s sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati." Runners make their way past Fountain Square and then head back toward Sawyer Point, where they meet up with Riverside Drive.

Once runners hit Riverside Drive, they remain on this road for the next few miles as it follows the bend in the Ohio River, where runners can look over into Kentucky as they make their way all the way around to the turn at Delta Avenue. There, runners then follow the trail past Turkey Ridge Park and then around back to Riverside Drive, which they run back in the opposite direction toward downtown.

The race finish line lies just a stone's throw from where the runners and walkers started, as the finish line festivities are underway back at Sawyer Point while runners cross the finish line for what the organizers say is the area's "last big race of the year."

For the 2013 race, the scheduled starting time for the half marathon is sunrise (about 8:02 AM, organizers note) for those running the 13.1-mile race, with runners and walkers starting together. The 5K race starts at 7:52 AM.
