Event Details

The long, paved and largely flat bike trails that wind their way between the central Ohio villages of Johnstown, Granville and Newark just outside Columbus are the setting for the annual summertime running of Granville's Coughlin Automotive Irish Festival Half Marathon, 5K & 5-Mile Challenge race, which takes runners on an out-and-back run along the T.J. Evans Recreational Trail through Licking County.

Part of the village's annual Granville Irish Festival -- which features authentic Irish dancers and musicians who take the stage in downtown Granville following the awards ceremony for the runners -- the race features a start and finish line near the stages for the entertainment later in the day, near the corner of Broadway and Cherry Street, just a few blocks south of the campus of Denison University.

From there, runners follow the race route westward along Broadway out to the T.J. Evans trail, also known as the Licking County Recreational Trail. Runners follow the trail as it winds its way roughly westward and northwest toward the nearby village of Johnstown, until they reach the turnaround point near the half-way point in the race, and then head back along the route they've just run to the finish line on Broadway in Granville.

Known for its wide, tree-lined paved paths that pass under highway bridges and stretches that take runners out among lush fields of wildflowers, the trail stretches about 36 miles from end to end through Licking County, from its northernmost point on James Street in Johnstown all the way southeast to Cherry Valley Road in Newark.
