Event Details

Just over 100 runners turned out to cross the finish line at 2008's first-ever running of the Preble County Half Marathon, which was run the same year this western Ohio town celebrated the bicentennial anniversary of its founding. Like last year's running, this year's half marathon will follow a course that takes runners on an out-and-back route to Lake Lakengren and back, along tree-lined country roads.

From the starting line at Eaton's Church of the Brethren just off Camden Road, runners follow the out-and-back course along roughly a north-south direction, taking Camden south all the way to the intersection with Mann Road, where they turn west and begin the stretch that heads over to the southern end of Lake Lakengren. This stretch of the race, at roughly its midpoint, includes a run across the dam that looks over onto the lake, and then runners make the turn on Lakengren Drive and head back along the course they've just run all the way back to the finish line at the church.

Runners can expect a mix of flat stretches and rolling hills along the race route, especially in the first few (and last few) miles along Camden and Mann Roads, particularly around the mile 5 and mile 7 markers. The size of the field at the Preble County Half will be limited to the first 1,000 runners who sign up, and the first 100 runners who register will receive event-provided neck coolers for the race.
