Arlington, TX

Event Details

Set for its inaugural running here in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area in the spring of 2010, the America's Run Half Marathon, 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run will take runners through the streets of Arlington, a community that lies between the area's two major cities and is perhaps best known as the site of the area's professional sports venues, including the brand-new Cowboys Stadium, the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, and The Ballpark at Arlington, the home of Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers.

The out-and-back loop course for the race will start on the field of the new Cowboys Stadium, which opened its doors in 2009, and runners will be able to see themselves on the stadium's huge video screens as they run inside the stadium to the finish line. Between the start and the finish, the course will take runners through a combination of residental neighborhoods as well as through the area's main tourist attractions, including stretches past The Ballpark at Arlington, Six Flags Over Texas and a stretch through the campus of the University of Texas-Arlington.

Run on paved surfaces throughout, the half marathon portion of the event features its hilliest stretch as runners are making their way through the UT campus, followed by a quick downhill stretch just as runners pass the mile 8 marker. The course then winds through neighborhoods just outside campus and rises again as runners make their way back to the edge of campus, and then is mostly downhill for the last three miles on the way back to the finish line at Cowboys Stadium.

The America's Run event also features a 5K for both runners and walkers, which will take participants past both Six Flags and the Ballpark, and will finish on the field at the stadium as well. There's also a one-mile "fun run" for children on the Saturday before the half marathon, and Dallas Cowboy players and cheerleaders are scheduled to be on hand to celebrate with the kids who take part in the race.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in East Texas, roughly midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, the city of Arlington typically experiences mild to moderately cool weather conditions in the early spring season, though thankfully (for the race) the city usually sees drier weather in April than in May, the month of the city's heaviest rainfall on average. In April, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 76°F and 54°F, while rainfall amounts average about 3.2 inches for the month.

Fees

$100 for the half marathon, if registered before February 1, 2010
