Texas > See Jane Run Women's Half Marathon & 5K
Austin, TX • Sunday, October 7, 2012 • Course Map
Postponed until 2013
The See Jane Run Women's Half Marathon series expanded from two races to four in 2011 with the addition of brand-new races in Seattle and Austin, Tex., and the debut of its inaugural See Jane Run race in the early fall of 2011 in the south Texas hill country -- the home of the University of Texas, "Austin City Limits" and the South by Southwest music festival, and often referred to as the place where the South meets the West.
Organized by the California-based athletic store chain of the same name as a benefit for the Breast Cancer Fund, the race -- which features as its tagline, "I run for chocolate and champagne!" -- gives girls, women, sisters, daughters and mothers an opportunity to train for and run in their first half-marathon while also raising money to fight breast cancer, as proceeds from the race go to benefit the Breast Cancer Fund.
For its Austin half marathon (as well as its 5K and one-mile kids' fun run), the See Jane Run race is set to follow an out-and-back course that will start and finish just to the northeast of Austin's downtown and the campus of the University of Texas, on the grounds of Mueller Lake Park, which lies near the city's Robert Mueller Municipal Airport.
If for nothing else, the race is certainly memorable for its runners' swag that organizers hand out to all participants -- including a champagne glass filled with chocolate wedges, as well as a chocolate tasting with complimentary champagne at the race expo. Men are more than welcome to participate in the event, organizers add, but the finishers' prizes will be for women only, as the See Jane Run races are events that are focused on women.
The scheduled starting time for the half marathon is 7:00 AM, followed by an 8:30 AM start for the 5K race.
