Texas > The Showdown Half Marathon & 5K
Fairview, TX • Saturday, October 11, 2014 • Course Map
Filled with rolling farmland and pastures, as well as residential neighborhoods known for their gorgeous homes and perfectly maintained lawns and gardens, the terrain in the far northern suburbs of the Dallas metropolitan area plays host for the first time this fall to the running of the Showdown Half Marathon & 5K race, which makes its 2nd annual running in the small town of Fairview, near McKinney.
Runners will start the out-and-back course for the race at 7:00 AM at the shopping center known as the Village of Fairview, which lies along Town Place, just off Highway 75 and Farm to Market Road. From there, the course takes runners into the hilly residential roads east of the Village shopping center, along a looping route filled with plenty of hills through tree-lined roads, and few flat stretches if any.
Organizers note that participants will have 3 1/2 hours to complete the half marathon, which means you'll need to keep a pace of 16 minutes per mile or better -- which means that walkers as well as runners may enter, as long as they keep a pace brisk enough to finish within the course time limit. Age group awards will be presented to the top 3 finishers in each of the following age divisions: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and age 70 and above.
