Utah > Farmington Festival Days Half Marathon, 5K, 10K & Flag Rock Run
Farmington, UT  •  Saturday, July 12, 2014  •  Course Map

Part of a week-long festival that begins the day after the 4th of July and runs through the following weekend, filled with a combination of movie nights, bike parades, a "Little Miss Farmington" pageant and a basketball tournament, the Farmington Days Festival races take place on the final day of the festival and features a 5K and two separate 10K races in addition to the 13.1-mile race.

To beat what will surely be some serious heat and sunshine here just north of the Salt Lake City area in early July, runners will start the half marathon at 6:00 AM -- followed by those running in the 5K or the 10K start at 6:45 AM -- from the starting line in front of Farmington Elementary School on West 200 South Road. From the school, runners head first east along West 200 South and then turn right to head south along South 200 East.

The course makes roughly a U-shaped partial loop over the first three miles, with turns on 1340 South and East Frontage Road, before bringing runners north again out into the rural areas that lie just west of Farmington's small, quaint downtown.

Runners will be able to take in both the Wasatch Mountains and the vast Cache National Forest to the east as well as the waters of the Great Salt Lake off in the distance to the west as they head out onto the roads west of town, criss-crossing the Denver and Western Rio Grande Rail Trail a few times along the way.

A turn on Shepard Lane marks the turn where the course begins heading back eastward toward the city, and a roughly half-mile-long stretch through the golf course along either side of Shepard brings runners to what is probably the race's steepest hill, the climb between mile markers 8 and 9 along North Frontage Road West, which peaks right around the Cherry Hill Waterpark on Main Street.

After that, the course heads downhill again over the final few miles, which bring runners through the heart of downtown Farmington along Main Street, and then back to the school for the race finish. The half marathon is limited to 250 entrants, so runners looking to take part in the race are encouraged to sign up as early as possible.
