Elma's annual Halloween Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K &
1-Mile Run is run at the same location and uses much the same course
for its half marathon as its springtime counterpart, the Spring
Fitness Half Marathon,
which takes place each year in April at Vance Creek Park, located just
southwest of the town of Elma, near Olympia in the southwestern part of
Also like the Spring Fitness race, the Halloween footraces are open to
all age ranges and participants with all levels of experience, as
organizers note these courses are suited for both beginners as well as
experienced runners. The course runs through Vance Creek Park and
features very few hills, and takes runners
mostly along paved scenic country roads throughout Elma's
rural areas. The race starts and finishes at the park, which is located
just off Wenzel Slough Road south of town, with a starting
time of 10:30 AM.
Weather & Climate
Nestled in the southwestern corner of Washington State,
just over an hour's drive from Seattle, the town of Elma typically sees
mild to cool (and sometimes cold) weather conditions in the early fall,
and plenty of cloudy, rainy weather.
October, Elma's average monthly temperatures range between
63°F and 39°F, while precipitation amounts average
around 5.68 inches for the month.
