Described by race organizers as the fastest half marathon in Utah — “nearly every Utah Half Marathon State Record is held on this course as it is fast and beautiful,” they say — the Hobble Creek Half Marathon offers both a course with long, gently rolling downhill stretches and the spectacular scenery of the nearby Wasatch Mountains.
The race begins about six miles outside the city of Springville, at the Balsam Campground just off Right Fork Hobble Creek Road, and takes runners 13.1 miles along a course that winds back into town for the finish at Mapleton City Park.
With an overall elevation drop of about 1,253 feet from the starting line to the finish line, the course is set up perfectly for runners looking to record personal record times. Just over 850 runners completed the race last year, and the course for the race is USATF (USA Track & Field) certified and sanctioned.
Participants need to be ready early for the race — the shuttle buses transporting runners to the starting line leave from the Mapleton City Park on the morning of the race, beginning at about 5:15 AM.
The race is limited to the first 1,000 entrants, so runners are encouraged to sign up as early as possible.
