It’s called the RunVermont “Half Marathon Unplugged” by the race organizers thanks to the fact that there are no throngs of spectators, bands or other groups making lots of noise along the race route.
Burlington’s RunVermont Half Marathon takes runners on a beautifully scenic, fast and flat point-to-point course along the shores of Lake Champlain here in the state’s northwestern corner, for a race that’s run in two waves and limited to 1,800 total entrants — 900 in the first wave and 900 in the second.
The course for the half marathon starts at Airport Park in nearby Colchester, which lies just a short drive north of Burlington. Runners will start at 9:00 AM.
From there, runners follow a few turns around the peninsula of land that sticks out into the lake around the airport, along both Colchester Point Road and Mills Point Road, and then begin the long stretch of the race that takes them along the lakeshore, starting on Windemere Way in Colchester and heading all the way south along both roads and biking trails to Burlington.
Organizers note that depending on the weather, the sections of the race that take runners over the natural-surface bike trails may be wet, muddy or perhaps even impassable if the weather is particularly rainy or inclement.
In that case, the course is changed so that those stretches will be avoided; in the case of particularly severe weather, organizers ask that runners check the race website (linked below) for updates.
