Presented by Bon Secours in Motion and part of a three-race series known as the Coastal Virginia Half Marathon Series, the Neighborhood Harvest Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon, Relay & 5K features the five-kilometer race on Saturday followed by the 13.1-mile race and relay on Sunday, or the “Shell Yeah” challenge to run both.
Runners will get to take in the sights and sounds of the Chesapeake Bay and Hampton Roads Harbor at this race, which starts and finishes next to the Hampton Coliseum and the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
From there, the race heads over I-64 and into Hampton, a city whose metro area is home to more than 1.6 million and whose history dates all the way back to the early 1600’s, when it was home for four centuries to the military installation Fort Monroe, now known as the Fort Monroe National Monument.
You’ll make your way along Queen Street and Settler Landing Road into downtown Hampton, whose mostly all flat and fast streets will take you past the Virginia Air and Space Center and Mill Point Park.
After that, the race heads south along LaSalle Avenue toward Chesapeake Avenue, where you’ll run along the banks of Chesapeake Bay, before heading back north toward the coliseum for the race finish.
Organizers note the race welcome walkers as well as runners — the course will be open for 4 hours — and there will be live bands, cheerleaders and even candy stops along the course. And at the finish line, there will be a Craft Brew Fest waiting for all participants and their friends and families, with crab chowder and beer.
