Snake River Canyon Half Marathon

Saturday, March 4, 2023 • Pullman, WA • Course Map

Featuring a course that winds along the highway at the base of the towering canyons overlooking the Snake River that flows through the southeastern corner of Washington State, the Snake River Canyon Half Marathon sees several hundred runners cross the finish line each year.

The Palouse Road Runners, the local running club that organizes the event, reports that runners shouldn’t necessarily expect frigid temperatures every year, as the weather is typically warmer this time of year in the area where the race is run.

Flat and paved throughout, the race starts at Wawawai Landing in Wawawai Canyon, the site of the Washington State University boat landing area, and takes runners along the river at an elevation of about 720 feet above sea level for most of the race.

Runners can expect an elevation change of only about 20 feet during the race, which reaches its turnaround point just as runners have passed Water Canyon, where race organizers will be waiting to point you back in the right direction toward the finish line back at the boat landing area.

The Snake River Canyon race is open to runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors, and takes place roughly 16 miles from the town of Pullman (and about 26 miles northwest of Clarkson, Wash.). The scheduled starting time for the race for all runners and walkers — the race is open to both — is 10:00 AM.

The course time limit for all participants — runners and walkers — is 3 1/2 hours, which means you’ll need to keep a pace of 16 minutes per mile or faster.

My 2015 registration was deferred to 2016 due to unfortunate circumstances. What do I need to do to confirm my participation when registration opens in December?

    Many thanks and best wishes,

    Daniel
